Overview

Mould Tool Service & Repair Services from Sabre

Injection mould tools are the heart of your production line. Wear, damage, corrosion or a lack of maintenance leads to flash, short shots, inconsistent parts and unplanned downtime. Sabre Plastics Tooling Ltd provides a complete injection mould tool service and repair facility from our toolroom in Letchworth, Hertfordshire, restoring tools to full working condition quickly and cost-effectively so you can keep moulding.

We work on tools of all sizes and from any toolmaker, whether or not Sabre originally built them. Collection and delivery can be arranged across the UK, and we are 30 minutes from London and central to the motorway network.

Tool Repair & Breakdown Support

When a tool goes down, speed matters. Our toolmakers assess the damage, quote quickly and prioritise breakdown work to get you back into production.

  • Emergency breakdown repairs
  • Cavity and core repair, welding and re-machining
  • Crack, chip and impact damage repair
  • Thread, insert and pin replacement
  • Ejector system repair
  • Slide, lifter and cam repairs
  • Hot runner and heater fault finding

Preventative Maintenance & Servicing

Regular servicing extends tool life and prevents the failures that cause costly downtime. We can set up a maintenance schedule for your tooling based on shot count or calendar interval.

  • Full strip-down and inspection
  • Deep cleaning of cavities, cores, vents and cooling channels
  • Wear analysis with a written condition report
  • Replacement of worn or damaged components
  • Re-greasing, reassembly and functional checks

Tool Refurbishment & Refitting

For tools showing their age or producing out-of-tolerance parts, a refurbishment brings performance back to as-new or better.

  • Re-cutting and re-polishing of cavities and cores
  • Surface texture and coating restoration
  • Cooling channel inspection and descaling
  • Parting line and shut-off refitting
  • Alignment correction and guide element replacement
  • Tool trials and revalidation

Modifications & Engineering Changes

Product designs change. Our in-house design team and 5-axis toolroom can modify existing tooling to suit new requirements, with all work carried out to tight tolerances.

  • Engineering change (ECN) updates
  • Cavity and impression changes
  • Gate, runner and venting improvements
  • Part design alterations and feature additions
  • Material conversion adjustments
  • Adapting tools to run in a different moulding machine

Vapour Blasting Restoration for Rusted & Water-Damaged Mould Tools

Tooling that has been stored badly, suffered a coolant leak or been through a flood often arrives with heavy rust and contamination. Using our in-house vapour blasting process, Sabre can restore corroded and water-damaged mould tools without the aggressive material removal of dry blasting.

Vapour (wet) blasting combines fine media with water at controlled pressure, lifting rust, scale and residue while preserving fine detail, sharp edges and critical dimensions. The result is a clean, uniform satin finish that significantly improves both the condition and the appearance of the tool, and gives our toolmakers a clear surface to inspect for any underlying damage before the tool goes back into service.

  • Rust and corrosion removal from cavities, cores, bolsters and plates
  • Removal of burnt-on plastic, gas staining and outgassing deposits
  • Surface preparation before polishing, texturing or coating
  • Cosmetic restoration of tools being returned to service or transferred
